Joel grew up on the hot and humid streets of Montgomery, AL. He was introduced to music at the age of 10 and has never said goodbye. After excelling in piano during his teen years, Joel moved to Nashville, TN where he received his Bachelor of Music in Piano from Belmont University.

While in Nashville, Joel met his dearest Melissa (who he somehow convinced into marrying him), and progressed heavily in his musical skills and expression, particularly in the realms of Jazz, Blues, R&B, Funk, Gospel, and Classical. He was the pianist for Belmont's Jazzmin Vocal Ensemble and was given the opportunity to play and perform with countless artists. Joel also became heavily involved with Indelible Grace Music, a coalition of singers and songwriters within the modern hymn-retuning movement. Out of this season came a call into pastoral ministry.

Joel and Melissa moved to Saint Louis, MO in the summer of 2011, where Joel began his MDIV studies at Covenant Theological Seminary. Joel could never have anticipated the vast amount of musical education he has received in the styles of Gospel, Funk, Soul, African, Hindi, and countless others while playing in the churches, clubs, and cafes in the city.

In the recent years, Joel has undertaken more work in the areas of arranging, editing, and transcription. Besides Indelible Grace, Joel has worked with Sandra Mccracken, Bifrost Arts, Steve Green, Rain for Roots, Wendell Kimbrough, and many other artists. Joel has also worked or currently works as a worship director for the the LDR Weekend, RUF Summer Conference, and the Beautiful Orthodoxy Conference. His past work includes The Forum On Faith & Culture, and the 2017 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America.

Joel, Melissa and their three boys (Oscar, Thelonius, and Wynton) live in Northeast Washington, D.C., where Joel is the Assistant Pastor at Grace Mosaic Church.
